- Components often experience multi-axial loads in service. However, it is a common practice to test components with uniaxial applied loads. Uniaxial lab tests are valid when the principal angle of the measured data remains constant. If not, the lab failure modes may be different than failure modes in service. Historically, cycle based editing has offered great testing efficiency but has only been available for uniaxial data. This paper outlines a method of cycle based editing which reproduces the multi-axial fatigue mechanism on fixed reaction test rigs.
