Combustion Characteristics By Use of Chemiluminescence in Diesel Flame

This study deals with the clarification of the combustion phenomena inside the combustion chamber of a high speed D.I. diesel engine using the several optical observing methods. The used engine has equipped with elongated and transparent piston for visualization. The JIS second-class gas oil was injected into the chamber through a practical nozzle. The temporal change in OH radical emission intensity was examined by using the optical fiber system to investigate the combustion stability in local flame region. From the experiments, it is revealed that two types of mixture formation and combustion processes exist in the combustion chamber of used engine.
