Abstract
This paper firstly shows the results of an experimental comparison between power losses of continuously variable and conventional drives of the same power class. Then the benefit of variable-drive unit insertion into two-way schemes with epicyclic train is studied in order either to increase the transmissible power or to extend the speed-ratio range to include neutral and reverse.
