Since 1987, the Product Engineering and Research Departments of Renault SA have been conjointly recording vehicle mission profiles in the field. The idea was to provide the design office with all the data necessary to, first compone and then match the technical specifications and the characteristics of the validation profiles to real customer usage.
During a 4 year period, 200 files of 40 variables (channels) each have been recorded in France. These files have then been collected in a knowledge database which already represents a good working tool for the design office.
The result of this first study already shows that measurement of the field usage is possible and gives useful information. In order to update and improve the database according to the new vehicles now distributed throughout Europe, Renault will soon begin a second set of usage measurements.
