Abstract
To evaluate the ride quality and handling performance of a vehicle as tire characteristics are varied, AUTOSIM, a multibody dynamics simulation language, was used to symbolically derive the equations of motor for a 14 degree of freedom vehicle and then automatically generate a fortran simulation program. This program was then verified by running various steering maneuver simulations. The experience showed that the generated program runs extremely quickly and can be easily modified. This paper describes the background and development of the fortran program and discusses the possibility of using this technique to evaluate the performance of other vehicle components.
