Abstract
This experimental study is mainly investigated on the flow
characteristics around the intake valve.
At first, the experiment of the air flow characteristics through
an intake poppet valve-seat were studied.
In the second, the experiment of measurement of the mean
velocity, turbulent intensity and turbulent kinetic energy around
valve exit and in cylinder was dealt with.
Orifice flow meter was employed for the measurement of flow rate
through an intake valve and LDA system was utilized and the data
were treated by an on- line computer analyzing system.
Valve and seat used in experiment were constructed as the same
shape of production DI diesel engine and magnify to the size of
twice for the detailed measurement in vicinity of valve curtain
area.
From the results of flow characteristics measurement through
valve seat, there exists three flow patterns with the increase of
its valve lifts. Measurement of the velocity at the valve exit
shows that the normalized axial velocity distribution is
independent of the flow rate.
The main jet angle of the valve jet is approach to valve seat
angle as the flow rate increases.
