Flame Characteristics in D.I. Diesel Engine With a Transparent Piston

This paper presents the investigation on the combustion mechanism in the diesel flame, using D.I. diesel engine with an elongated and transparent piston. Then the distributions of the flame temperature and the soot were obtained by applying the two-color method. And, OH radical in the flame was detected by use of luminous method.
Accordingly, the qualitative relations between the flame temperature and OH radical were revealed based on the results of temporal and spatial characteristics of these in the flame.
