A flexible fuel vehicle (FFV), which can operate on gasoline, M85 or any combination of both fuels has been developed.
An optical type fuel composition sensor is employed to detect methanol blend ratio in the fuel. Fuel injection rate and ignition timing are optimally controlled in accordance with methanol blend ratio.
This paper describes the system and the test results of the vehicle.
