The Potential for Vehicle Weight Reduction Using Magnesium

Reducing vehicle weight can play a significant role in reducing fuel consumption, while simultaneously improving performance and handling. Magnesium, if it is utilized effectively, can contribute to major reductions in vehicle weight. The potential for reducing the weights of several vehicles is discussed. The purpose of this paper is to show the great potential for achieving major vehicle weight reductions, by taking a whole-vehicle approach to utilizing magnesium.
