Minimizing noise sources at the vehicle exterior is an important factor in reducing wind noise. Up to now it has been very difficult to measure outside noise. Therefore, in this work a method was investigated for measuring outside noise with a new directional microphone. Measurements were made in Nissan's low-noise full-scale wind tunnel, which has a semi-open test section. The results confirmed that the new microphone accurately measures noise level differences due to changes in the body shape. It can also locate noise sources accurately and measure the precise distribution of wind noise around a car body
