Parameter Identification of Idle Model Using Impulse Response

Parameter identification of an idle model has been performed by using a technique of impulse response. The idle model represented by a second order lag has two unknown paramters ζ and ω n. The identification results are not only useful to design an idle speed controller with good control results, but also show a good agreement with engine speed dependencies predicted theoretically. That is, the natural frequency ω n varies little to the engine speed, but the coefficient of resistance ζ increases with increasing the idle speed.
