Abstract
As an alternative for the manual five-speed transmission of the Porsche 911 Carrera 2, a modern automatic transmission featuring a manual shift option and a driving style dependent control system was to be developed, which matches this sportscar's particular character. Based on the targets set for this concept, the following paper explains the design and performance characteristics of the Porsche Tiptronic which is the first of a new generation of transmissions.
