- Content
- This paper describes the rotary swaging method to manufacture tubular automotive components, such as steering columns, hollow piston rods for shock absorbers, driving shafts, etc. Linear transfer machines include secondary operations; e.g., turning, thread forming, splining and other operations are included in the automatic production cycle. Forming of automotive steel tubing with circular or non-circular cross sections, mandrel swaging, dimensional tolerances and surface finish are discussed.
