Abstract
Allison Gas Turbine is conducting a program to develop components for a direct coal-fueled gas turbine and demonstrate operating feasibility of a complete system in a proof-of-concept engine test. This paper describes progress to date with particular emphasis on. combustor development and fuel properties. Projected economics for locomotive applications of this developing technology, which have the potential to become available in the late 1990s, are also discussed.
