- An approach using the current process performance evaluations for the development of a vehicle component specification is described.Several statistical process control techniques were applied in the process evaluation of the current status of Fiber Pad manufacturing for automobile applications. These techniques were used in determining the current capability of several manufacturers of these products to develop a Vehicle Fiber Pad specification. The demonstrated capability was converted into realistic requirement specifications that the supplying industry was to meet on a daily basis. This case history is used to describe how the program came about, how it was implemented, the kinds of problems encountered, and approaches to avoid in future applications.
