Abstract
Accepted techniques for the reliability analysis and prediction of electronic assemblies are often unsuitable in studying the reliability of the mechanical components used in these assemblies. Complicating factors in considering mechanical components include failure rates which vary with time and the large number and diversity of their failure modes, many of which are strongly system dependent. A procedure is suggested which includes both system and component events in the development of a mechanical component reliability model.
