This paper describes the general strategy of applying multi-sensor condition monitoring techniques to industrial and marine gas turbines. A multi-sensor condition monitoring system is designed to detect incipient, small faults before they become severe, with a low false alarm rate. The basic approach centres around corroboration of data from existing monitoring techniques and the use of new monitoring techniques. The paper suggests, with examples, how the design of such a system is approached and the system realised, based on the experience of the authors.
