Abstract
This paper describes the performance of a high BMEP DI diesel engine with variable geometry turbocharger (VG turbo). Nozzle vane type was selected as VG turbo and vane area was electronically controlled to be 4 positions by 2 air cylinder actuators. For improvement of transient running performance, a boost pressure sensor was installed to keep a black smoke emission less than acceptable level. In this engine, some new technologies such as variable air swirl system, electronically controlled fuel injection system were adopted to improve the diesel combustion.
