Authors Abstract
Content
This Third International Pacific Conference reaffirms the dedication of the Pacific Basin Countries to the advancement of mobility technology and to the economic prosperity that mobility brings to the nations which enjoy it. The major thrust of the conference is to share views of technology advancement in the on- highway vehicle sector; but keep in mind that the use and progress of off-highway machines and aircraft also lead importantly to our economic health.
We as automotive engineers must assume a dual responsibility. We must continue to advance mobility technology to improve the well-being of humanity; and, at the same time, we must recognize that our products must be "user friendly"; that is, safe to use, economical to operate, respectful of resources consumed, and compatible with environmental considerations. Only by realizing this dual goal can we meet our obligations to society.
