Abstract
This paper first reviews computer voice recognition and speech generation technology in the context of potential rotorcraft applications and summarizes the aviation human factors research that has been accomplished in these two closely related technologies. An argument is then made for an integrated approach to research and development and subsequent design of voice control and speech display systems for rotorcraft missions. Finally, comes a list of human factors issues that need to be addressed in order to take an integrated approach to rotorcraft voice systems design.
