Stress Analysis

The basic concepts of elastic and inelastic behavior are presented. The elevation of stresses at notches, the stress concentration factor, K_t and fatigue notch factor, K_f, and sources of differences between K_t and K_f are introduced. Inelastic stress-strain response at a notch, Neuber’s rule, residual stresses subsequent to notch yielding, and reduction of stress concentration are discussed.
