Modelling of Diesel Engine Combustion

In examining diesel combustion two basic objectives must be considered:
~ the most rational utilization of the energy introduced during the combustion cycle
~ environmental aspects, i.e., minimization of exhaust gas emissions
To reconcile these objectives a precise model of complete Diesel combustion was developed, integrating in a coherent manner the energy and pollution parameters. The model describes not only the evolution of the fuel injected but also the evolution of the chemical process in the cylinder.
The resulting model is a useful design tool because it integrates not only the determination of the work output and the pollution from the engine, but it also integrates a theoretical link between the two.
