- The energy requirements of three alternative rice production systems used by most small Asian farmers are identified by task and source of energy so energy levels and components of each system can be compared. Human energy contributes a small portion of total energy input into most traditional Asian rice farming systems. As food production systems modernize, they become less energy efficient and more dependent on commercial energy.
