Abstract
Approximately 160 million light vehicle tires need replacement each year. Buyers have special needs and look for certain characteristics, often on the basis of what weakness existed in their previous tires.
The manufacturer must satisfy the consumer's demands for features and price. On the other side, they must comply with industry requirements, government standards, international requirements and the demands of the “marketplace.” Through all of this, manufacturers must bear in mind not only the product's price, but the cost of research and testing in developing a “quiet tire” to please all.
