Abstract
This paper consists of a study which was conducted to evaluate present transit bus air conditioning systems and to present some concepts which are desirable in future vehicles. Various cooling load requirements are examined and related to the present air conditioning systems. The requirements are further compared to the systems proposed for future vehicles. Particular attention is paid to the power consumption of present A/C systems and reducing the power consumption in future systems. Factors for improving the A/C system reliability are also evaluated.
