Development of the Model 245 Excavator

The recently announced Model 245 excavator further extends Caterpillar Tractor Co.'s excavator line. The applications and the size of this machine presented some special problems to be solved during its development. The basic development program, the solutions to specific problem areas, and the resulting machine and its features are discussed.
