Authors Abstract
Content
Laboratory model studies were conducted to determine the basic principles controlling performance and to assess the capabilities of a new concept of earthmoving known as REDSOD. Nondimensional empirical equations for excavated crater volume and equipment recoil force derived from the model tests showed reasonable agreement with full-scale field test results. Estimates of trenching productivity were made for the REDSOD using these equations, and the results were compared with estimates for conventional earthmoving equipment.
