Abstract
A mathematical model and digital computer simulation were used to predict dynamic response characteristics of a spool type of relief valve. This simulation resulted in design changes to achieve optimum performance. The effects of several valve design parameters on valve performance are shown along with results of actual valve tests. Some of the parameters included are: reaction orifice, damping orifice, metering edge overlap, and oil properties.
