Authors Abstract
Content
This paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of adapting civilian “off-the-shelf” aircraft to support and augment military operations. One advantage is that it provides the U.S. with a standing paramilitary force that can be quickly assembled. Modifications to various models are discussed in some detail, listing both the benefits and shortcomings of each based on the USAF's Special Operations Force experience in using general aviation aircraft for reconnaissance, liaison, courier, ambulance, infiltration, transport, leaflet dropping, mosquito control, and agricultural purposes.
