Content: Testing in accordance with SAE J987, Crane Structures - Method of Test, presents many challenges. This paper discusses a number of them: installation of gages, effect of wind and temperature changes, quality of personnel, instrumentation and test facilities required. An analysis of test time and cost is also made.
