Abstract
The need for instruments to enhance the operational availability of small turbine engines is described. A unified concept for such instruments is depicted which considers the users environment, parameters available for measurement, and economics. These instruments are categorized into those for detecting abuse, assessing the health, and those summing the use age on engines. Some specific hardware is also discussed.
