Authors Abstract
Content
This paper attempts to define an engineer. Approaches for determining the characteristics of engineers and scientists include use of biographical data, surveys, and interviews and questionnaires. Perceptions of engineers by themselves and coworkers are offered, as are characteristics of the automobile industry as they may affect the engineer. How education influences the characteristics of engineers is also described. Finally, a prediction of the future is made, along with suggested actions for attracting engineers to the automotive industry.
