Authors Abstract
Content
Aspects of the flight mechanics associated with a manually controlled lunar landing are analyzed with reference to atmospheric flight test vehicle requirements. The free flight lunar landing research vehicle (LLRV) being developed by the Flight Research Center of NASA and the tethered flight lunar landing research facility (LLRF) being developed by the Langley Research Center of NASA are each evaluated conceptually with regard to their potential contributions to the LEM development. It is concluded tentatively that the LLRV provides a unique opportunity for pilot training and for verifying basic LEM design concepts.
