Authors Abstract
Content
Research, testing, and quality control procedures in developing radial lip type seals are presented. Studies indicate basic design parameters such as trim interference and eccentricities are comparable in both small and large diameter seals. Basic problems facing heavy equipment users are seal leakage resulting in loss of lubricants, entrance of contaminants, and failure of mechanical components adjacent to the seal application. Investigations and conclusions relating to seal lip pressure, hardness of seal material, and their application are illustrated.
