Authors Abstract
Content
A brief discussion of the fundamentals of a d-c generator are presented together with its limitations at both high and low speeds. The offsetting advantages in the use of an alternator are developed. Basically, to determine the proper type alternator to be used one must define the ultimate electrical load and the ultimate service required.
Illustrations and typical performance curves are presented for alternators and d-c systems under various operating conditions. The important point emphasized is that the alternator must be selected for specific applications or it too will fail.
