The design development of a snow blower of the conveyor impeller type is the subject of this paper. The mechanical aspects are conventional, but the calculations involve the selection of dimensions for components based on snow as a unique and variable material to be handled by a typical machine.
The machine discussed here moved 20 tons of snow per minute, throwing it a distance of 150 ft. The conveyor section consists of double screws, 20 in. dia, turning at 400 rpm and requiring 44.5 hp. The impeller, at 550 rpm, is 42 in. dia, requiring 265 hp.
The configuration of various blower designs, with the powerplant integrally mounted or separately truck mounted, and with the impeller either separate or integral with a single conveyor, are clearly illustrated.
