Abstract
The trend toward corrosive resistant mastics because of economy and sound deadening properties has been hindered by dirty and low coverage materials, overspray cleanup problems, and inaccessibility of corrosion-prone metal surfaces to heavy material spray. Recently discovered grease and waxlike compounds, which penetrate all vulnerable spots and dry quickly to form resilient corrosion barriers, are gaining popularity throughout the coating field. This material is not dislodged by vibration or flexing but can be removed by abrasion or extreme temperature elevation. Success of these compounds is due mainly to pneumatic hydraulic equipment. High pressure “airless” spray units overcome previous application obstacles, greatly increasing the range and scope of coating compounds, especially for after-market use.
