Amid the raft of announcements for upcoming electric-vehicle systems and nameplates comes a subtle surprise: fuel cell development is building momentum.
The recent announcement by GM and Nikola that the companies will collaborate on a future fuel-cell-electric (FCE) pickup and FCE systems again has the industry talking hydrogen. Beneath the waves is an alignment on fuel cell propulsion and GM's move closer to the Class 8 truck market. Nikola is first and foremost a heavy (Class-8) truck, fleet-focused technology company. GM was already aligned with Honda for FCEV tech development, and that partnership continues.
