Investigation of Joining Mechanism on Spot-Welding of Different Types of Metal Sheets Using Elemental Analysis

In this study, we carried out spot-welding tests with steel for automobile and Ni-based heat-resistant super alloy in order to clarify the joining mechanism in welding between different types of metals. Also, test jigs were formulated and made for obtaining more accurate data. The results were as follows: (1) the jigs improved the accuracy of welding and tensile test. (2) The shear tensile strength and cross tensional strength welded with different types of metals increased with applying time of current same as the welding test data with same types of metals. (3) The solid-state type welding occurred on very short-time region of spot welding. Most of joining types were fusion welding with nugget between metal sheets. In the nugget, elements of metals were mixed together on welding.
