Abstract
This study discussed driver's sensitivity and adaptability to variation of handling characteristics. In order to seize basic characteristic of driver adaptation to variation of the steering gain and time constants, we conducted some experiments using a real vehicle. The subjects had in common that it is difficult to recognize the delay in response, when steering characteristics are the gain to increase and the delay in response. However, these trends were different depending on the evaluation of smoothness and the total quantity of steering maneuver. These results show that the relation between driver's property and adaptive characteristics was confirmed.
