Abstract
Thickness optimization technique that has been used to design the thickness of steel sheets of vehicle body components is applied to optimize the thickness of damping sheets attached on vehicle body panels. The levels of noise transfer functions that are proved to have high contributions to the overall performance are constrained in several third octave bands. This technique can lead to reduction of the weight of damping material without the degrading of the overall performance level that is evaluated considering the trim components such as dash insulator and floor carpet.
