In-Cylinder Experimental Analysis Using Piezo-Driven Diesel Injector Equipped With Needle-Lift Sensor

Precise combustion control becomes more important to achieve lower emissions and fuel consumption. A piezo-driven diesel injector equipped with needle-lift sensor was newly developed for detailed analysis of the relation between fuel injection and combustion. Exhaust emission test and combustion visualization analysis were conducted the injector in order to clarify why lower smoke level was achieved using after-injection with short interval. Visualization results showed that fuel spray of after-injection was ignited immediately, and combustion region of after-injection was separated from that of main injection. Consequently soot oxidation was promoted, and smoke emission was reduced.
