Abstract
This study aims to develop the innovative plasma combustion system to improve fuel economy and achieve the higher efficiency without any modification of current engine configuration. A mixer circuit, which can mix high electric voltage and microwave into single coaxial cable, has been developed. Microwave plasma ignition was realized with conventional spark plug, which was commercially available, using the mixer circuit. Microwave plasma ignition can be applied to high load condition. Automobile spark plugs, which are commercially available for automobile engine can be used for the microwave plasma ignition. With using the mixer circuit, microwave plasma ignition can be applied to high load condition. In the case of 1861 rpm and 41 Nm, almost wide open throttle condition, microwave plasma ignition can reduce the fluctuation of IMEP at lean condition (A/F≻23).
