Abstract
In the great cities the heavy traffic is a fatiguing and uncomfortable time to the driver. Currently the option of the automatic transmission, that would provide more comfort in the heavy traffic, is rare and expensive, being only available in vehicles of superior category. An alternative to this would be the automated manual transmission (AMT - Dualogic®) for having cost around 50% inferior and less mechanical losses compared to conventional automatic transmissions (AT) with torque converter and CVT. Moreover, it can provide better fuel consumption if compared with a vehicle equipped with MT, what it does not occur with the conventional AT.
The objective of this work is to demonstrate how the application of this system was developed displaying the bonds and limitations of the projects, functional particularities for the Brazilian market and interface with other systems of the vehicle (i.e. LOCKER).
Another important fact of this technology developed by FIAT, FPT Powertrain and Magneti Marelli is the possibility of application in vehicles of the segments A and B with engines of lower displacement, providing comfort with lower cost to a bigger parcel of the society.
