Stress Analysis Method for Bolt Thread Under Operating Conditions of Automotive Engine

In designing bolted structures on fatigue strength, it is important to predict precisely the stress amplitude occurring at the bolt thread. However, since bolted structures are usually operated under complex loading, the motion of structures under operating conditions must be taken into account for precise prediction. On the other hand, the boundary between bolted structures is in the contact/friction condition which is well known as the boundary nonlinear problem.
In this paper, we report the analysis method using FEA which is capable of predicting stress at the bolt thread with the motion of the bolted structures and the nonlinearity of contact and materials.
