Fundamental Analysis of Ignition Characteristics of Low Temperature Plasma Ignition Using Barrier Discharge

In this study, we made a low temperature plasma igniter of a barrier discharge model for trial purpose, and we carried out a fundamental analysis of ignition characteristics when low temperature plasma ignition was applied as the ignition system for gasoline engine with single-cylinder engine. We investigated a difference of the ignition characteristics of low temperature plasma and thermal plasma of conventional spark plug by comparing a combustion characteristic of both in various driving conditions. And we analyzed the mechanism of combustion initiation of low temperature plasma ignition by chemical kinetic simulation.
