Abstract
This paper treats the construction of an alternative assessment process to develop vehicles without a prototype in the field of wind noise. The digital wind noise testing using PowerFLOW software is adopted as the main methodology of this process. To verify the reliability of this wind noise computer-aided testing tool, results of the simulations were compared with those of aeroacoustic wind tunnel tests for two typical wind noise problems, i.e., the sunroof buffeting and the turbulence noise on the side window. In order to compare and examine closely, real car conditions were considered in the simulations, and some conditions that cannot be taken into account were redefined. Standards in pre-processing and post-processing are leveraged to complete the simulation-based assessment process in a given short time interval of vehicle development.
