Abstract
The objective of the present study is to reveal what factors affect the slip. The slip speed was observed using devised elements and radial displacement meters. The relationship was revealed between the transmitted torque and the belt penetration in the pulley groove. Motion of the belt elements in the pulley groove was observed by a high-speed video camera. When the element clearance exists, power cannot be transmitted as long as enough elements are not supplied in the active arc. Therefore, slip occurs in the active arc while the elements accompany with the pulley without slippage in the idle arc.
