Abstract
During the last years the stricter and stricter motorcycles emission regulations constrained engine manufacturers to make a strong technological effort in order to meet the new rules. In order to meet these standards and to reduce exhaust emissions from motorcycles, manufactures had to replace carburetor with electronic fuel injection system and to use a three-way catalytic converter.
This work presents an optimized engine management system for four stroke scooter engines control. The system is based on an Electronic Control Unit with a 16bit microcontroller, a power supply-signal conditioning IC and a power driver IC.
The system also employs an optimized solution for engine phasing in order to correctly determine the engine angular position.
The main goal of the system is to provide an optimized hardware architecture which allows to meet the new emission limits for motorcycle engines by means of proper software.
