Drivers? awareness, judgment and operations prior to an accident were extracted by making a detailed analysis of the descriptions, situational diagrams and photographs contained in traffic accident in-depth investigation database. The traffic environment, relative positions of the vehicles, point at which the partner vehicle was perceived and other relevant details were also extracted. Accident factors were examined on the basis of a classification of collision partners (automobile, motorcycle, bicycle), right of way or non-right of way, and the relationship between the position where partner perception was physically possible and the actual position where potential danger was perceived.
